Ryan Curtis has announced that senior
Andrew Buckanavage and junior
Bryan Capone will captain the team for the upcoming season.
"We are very pleased to announce Andrew and Bryan as our captains for the 2015 season. Andrew returns for his second year as a captain, while this will be Bryan's first. Both showed throughout the fall and winter that they truly deserve this honor and have been great to work with. The team will continue to benefit from their leadership," said Curtis, who's in his ninth season at the helm of the men's lacrosse program at UVM.
Buckanavage, a senior middie, enters his second season as a team captain. The Ridgefield, Connecticut native registered career-highs in points (20), goals (16) and assists (4) last season, and ranked third on the team in goals scored. He posted multi-point efforts in six different contests, including back-to-back three-goal performances to close out the 2014 campaign. In the season finale vs. UMBC, Buckanavage notched a season-high five points on three goals and a pair of assists.
Capone, a junior defenseman, will look to anchor the back line again for the Catamounts in his third season with the program. In 2014, Capone made 12 appearances on defense for Vermont and finished the season third on the squad in caused turnovers (9). The Liverpool, New York native forced a season-high three caused turnovers against Providence, and picked up multiple ground balls in three different contests.
The Catamounts bring back 67% of their scoring from a season ago, including reigning America East Rookie of the Year,
Ian MacKay (42 pts.), junior
Nick Bartlett (21) and Buckanavage (20). Goalie
Justin Rosenberg returns for his junior season after finishing 2014 with the second highest save percentage (.513) among conference goalies. UVM also added 18 newcomers to the roster, including 12 freshmen, five transfers and one walk-on.
Vermont opens the regular season on February 7 at No. 14 Penn State, before returning to Burlington for the home opener on February 14 vs. Colgate. All UVM home games this season will be streamed live for free via
