America East Men's and Women's All-Academic Teams
An exercise and movement sciences major from Missoula, Montana, Sayer was one of several instrumental components of the women's team, posting Vermont's top finish in four meets on the season. At the 5K Rothenberg Run hosted by Brown University, she posted a personal-best time of 17:28 as part of a first-place finish. She garnered America East All-Conference distinction at the conference championships in October after finishing 11th overall. She has compiled a 3.91 grade point average and picked up All-Academic honors for the first time.
Kaplan earned All-Academic recognition for the second time after picking up the same laurels last season. Originally from Amherst, Massachusetts, she finished third for UVM at the America East Championships as the Catamounts earned 89 points in a fourth-place finish. As with Sayer, she also recorded a personal-best at the Rothenberg Run, crossing the finish line in 17:31. She was named a captain of the women's squad this season and was one of only three All-Academic selections to boast a perfect 4.0 grade point average.
A native of Havre de Grace, Maryland, Hopkins owns a 3.71 GPA as a Russian major and is a first-time All-Academic honoree. He ran a time of 26:10 at the 8K America East Championships last month, helping the Catamounts finish fifth as a team. He finished in the top-20 at the Rothenberg Run (8K), clocking in at 25:58 and pocketing 18th place overall as the men's squad took home second place (37 points), narrowly being edged by Connecticut (35).
To be eligible for All-Academic consideration, student-athletes must have at least sophomore athletic eligibility, attain a 3.30 minimum grade-point average and be a top-45 finisher at the America East Championships.
