ROXBURY, Mass. – The Vermont women's track & field team took home first place (188 points) while the men's squad captured 112 points en route to a second place finish at the Jay Carisella Invitational, hosted on Saturday by Northeastern University.

The UVM women finished just ahead of Northeastern (180) in the four-team Division I field and the men placed between Northeastern (299) and Brown (75) in the same field.
Around the track,
Katie Nolan claimed the women's 1000-meter after posting a 2:56.43 mark, beginning a sequence in which the Catamounts sealed the top four spots in the event.
Alex May Curtis and
Julia Nugent teamed up to pocket the top two positions in the 500-meter dash, with the former earning a first place finish (1:21.54) ahead of Nugent (1:21.99).
Lauren Trumble won the mile with a personal-best time of 5:10.91. Not far behind was
Julie Richer (5:15.18), finishing third. Richer also was third in the 800-meter after clocking in at 2:26.68.
Elsewhere,
Autumn Albrecht paced the Catamounts in the 5000-meter, taking second with a time of 17:29.25. The 3000-meter was snagged by
Anna Kaplan (10:12.46).
Grace Weisbecker picked up first in the pole vault (3.75) also posting UVM's top finish in the 200-meter dash with a 10th place performance (26.97). Also leading Vermont was
Mallory Honan, who was second in the long jump (5.63). The 60-meter hurdles included a sixth place effort by Curtis (9.55).
In the 4x400 relay, Jess Cartier,
Sunny Nagpaul,
Ali Belash and
Ava Meyer teamed up to post a 4:21.66 mark and place third.
The men's side saw
Ian Weider earn the top spot in the long jump with a mark of 7.23. Freshman
Chris Gish won the 5000-meter (15:04.38), followed up with fourth and fifth place finishes respectively by classmates
Jack Carmody (15:22.16) and
Gavin Schmeck (15:30.94). Also tabbing first was
Taylor Kracher, who ran a time of 1:06.28 in the 500-meter.
Romario Bailey was narrowly edged in the 60-meter dash, finishing third (6.92) after Northeastern's Kyle Darrow posted a 6.89 mark. Bailey also competed in the 200-meter, taking third with a time of 22.42 seconds.
Behind the efforts of
Ahmed Noor,
Nick Smith,
Walker Horton and
Justin Liechty, the Catamounts placed sixth in 3:32.47 in the 4x400 relay.
Kasey Gelfand led UVM in the mile, crossing the finish line in 4:30.20 to take sixth.
John Ferrone ran the 400-meter in 53.66 seconds, while
Paul Moore (mile, 8:47.59)
The Catamounts now will pause for exams, returning to the track at Dartmouth on Saturday, Jan. 14.
