The lead changed 11 times in the game, all in the first half. Columbia led 36-30 at halftime and Vermont ended up making it a 1-point game by the middle of the fourth quarter before the Lions pulled away for good. In the final minute, the Catamounts recorded a rebound down three points but Abby Lee stole the ball which drew a foul and a trip to the line that put the Lions up for good.Â
Â
Columbia's all-time leading scorer, senior forward Camille Zimmerman, scored 28 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. She was aided by Janiya Clemmons and Abby Lee, who scored 12 points each for the Lions.
Â
The Catamounts did manage to out-rebound the Lions 41-40, for three more steals with seven on the game and win the points in the paint battle 30-24. UVM head coach
Chris Day was satisfied with his team's spirit on Sunday afternoon.Â
"I loved our effort today to keep fighting when we got down, "said Day. "I told our team we have to get our program to win those types of games instead of just praising how hard we played. We still have a lot of growing to do. That's why everyone has to trust the process. But we will be ready to compete again against a talented American team on Friday."
Â
Junior forward
Candice Wright registered two blocked shots in the game and tied Katie McNamara's ('05) UVM all-time individual record with 102 blocks for her career. Wright is projected to become the lone all-time leader in one of the Catamounts final two November home games this coming weekend.
