STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. – Vermont had three First Team All-American alpine skiers in the slalom races on Day 3 of the 2018 NCAA Skiing Championships under the lights at Howelsen Hill on Friday night.
With six of the eight NCAA events complete, the Catamounts retain their fifth-place team standing with 279 points. Denver takes over the top spot with 437 points, followed by host Colorado (411), Dartmouth (330.5), and Utah (290.5).

Defending NCAA champion
Paula Moltzan (1:19.75) and
Francesca English (1:20.41) both earned spots on the podium in the women's slalom with second and third. Moltzan, who took third in the giant slalom on Wednesday, had the second-fastest time on Run 2 but was edged out by Denver's Amelia Smart (1:19.21) for the national title.
Sandy Vietze was the NCAA slalom runner-up on the men's side with a combined time of 1:21.26, earning First Team All-America honors for the first time. The senior was the race leader by a tenth of a second after the first run, but Dartmouth's Tanguy Nef registered the top time on the final run to win the NCAA championship in 1:20.49.
Josefine Selvaag skied a combined time of 1:25.18 to placed 24th overall for the Catamount women, who collected the second-highest point total behind Denver.
Patrick McConville (1:33.38) and
Max Roeisland (1:45.72) took 30th and 32nd for the men, as Roeisland had to hike back to a gate during the opening run to put him out of contention.
The NCAA Skiing Championships conclude on Saturday (March 10) with the Nordic freestyle races at Howelsen Hill. The men's 20K begins at 11 a.m. (ET), followed by the women's 15K at 1 p.m. (ET) to close the championship. Both freestyle events can be seen live for free at
