LOWELL, Mass. - The University of Vermont men's and women's track & field teams kicked off the 2019 outdoor season with a trip to UMass Lowell on Saturday. The Catamounts won three events in the non-scoring meet with athletes from Boston University, Hartford, Harvard, Northeastern, Stonehill and UMass Lowell.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- John Benner broke UVM's outdoor 3000m record with a time of 8:34.85, finishing second in the event. The previous record was 8:36.68 set by Dan Moroney in 2014.
- Senior Muriel Adams was the only Catamount to qualify for the New England Outdoor Championship Saturday. Her discus throw of 38.93m, the second best of her career, qualified Adams for the second straight season.
- Phoebe Koski set a personal record in the 3000m winning the event with a time of 10:12.00. She finished 4.93 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher from UMass Lowell.
- Alexa Cooper, Dina John, Jane Leighton and Shannon Lustiber took first place in the women's 4x400m relay with a time of 4:16.00. Leighton also finished second overall in the 1500m with a time of 4:54.72.
- Junior Katrina Rokosz won the javelin with a throw of 37.17m on her third attempt of the afternoon. The mark of 37.17m was the fourth best of her career and best since the 2017 America East Outdoor Championships.
- Ava Meyer also finished second overall in the 400m with a time of 1:02.03. It was the first time in her collegiate career running that distance outside of a relay.

Members of the Catamounts Track & Field team will compete Friday and Saturday (April 5-6) at the Colonial Relays hosted by William & Mary in Williamsburg, Va. Live streaming ($) of the action will be available at

Those not in Virginia will compete at the Minutemen Invitational at UMass Saturday. Action at the UMass Track & Field Complex will begin at 10:30 a.m.
