DEDHAM, Mass. –The men's and women's Vermont outdoor track and field teams both finished third overall at the Jay Carisella Invitational hosted by Northeastern University Saturday. On the west coast the Catamounts concluded their trip to California with the 25th annual Beach Invitational

HOW IT HAPPENED – JAY CARISELLA INVITATIONAL
- Konstanze Wendeln won her first collegiate outdoor race in the women's 5000m. She finished in a time of 17:59.20, smashing the field by 22.16 seconds.
- Vermont's Maggie Mahoney had similar success in the 10000m. She finished 30.25 seconds ahead of her closest competition winning the event in a time of 39:23.02. Meara Heininger finished third overall in the event with a time of 40:19.40 in her first time ever running it.
- Phoebe Koski won the 3000m steeplechase for the Catamounts in a time of 11:06.20. It was Koski's first win of the outdoor season and her second-best time in the event ever.
- Gavin Schmeck picked up the sole men's win of the afternoon in the 5000m. In his first attempt at the distance this season he finished in a time of 15:12.66, 20.96 seconds ahead of his closest competition.
- Jasper Reed finished second in the triple jump, but set a personal best with a mark of 14.24m.
- The men's team won the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:31.33 with Eli Ogilvie, Cam McLaughlin, Blake Williams and Walker Horton.
HOW IT HAPPENED – BEACH INVITATIONAL
- Dan DeBlieck had the Catamounts best finish from California Saturday. He placed 13th in the 400m hurdles with a time of 53.78. It was his second fastest time of the 2019 outdoor season.
- Justin Liechty was 32nd in the 400m with a time of 49.61. He also placed 53rd in the 200m with a season-best run of 22.43.
- Seth Beard set a personal best in the 100m with a time of 11.02 to finish 67th overall. He also was 57th in the 200m with a mark of 22.53.
- In the women's 400m hurdles Alex May Curtis finished 20th overall in a time of 1:03.44. Her teammate Mia Grasso placed 28th with a time of 1:04.12.
- Muriel Adams had her best performance of the season in the women's discus throw. She threw 39.77m good for 74th overall.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Catamounts return to action next Saturday at New Hampshire's Pre-Conference Meet which will serve as Vermont's final tune-up before the 2019 America East Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Action will begin at UNH's Reggie Atkins Track & Field Facility at 11 a.m.
