Coach Lonergan on Garrett Kissel: “Garrett had a good junior season, averaging over 10 minutes a game for us. He is a tough, physical player who is a very good rebounder. His minutes will increase if he can improve his free throw shooting. We are looking for Garrett to have a terrific senior season. ”
2010-11 Season: Played in all 32 games, making one start as a senior … Averaged 3.0 points and 3.0 rebounds per game, while shooting 51.4 percent from the floor … Pulled down six rebounds in the first game of the season, a win over Siena … Went 3-for-3 from the floor for six points in a win at Quinnipiac … Added seven points in a win against Dartmouth and also two games later against BYU … Grabbed six rebounds in the win over Marist … Scored seven points in a win at Albany … Earned his second career start on Senior Day, as he earned a season-best eight rebounds vs. Boston U.
2009-10 Season: Played in all 35 games as a junior, giving the Cats depth in the post … Finished fourth on the team in rebounding, averaging 3.2 per game … Pulled down a career-high 10 rebounds to go with eight rebounds in a win against Toledo as part of the Legends Classic … Just missed out on his first career double-double by shooting 4-for-4 from the floor on his way to nine points and nine rebounds in a win at Marist … Grabbed five or more rebounds on eight occasions.
2008-09 Season: Played in 27 games, making one start … Scored a season-high four points twice, against Colorado and Binghamton … Hauled in a season-high four rebounds against NJIT and UMBC.
2007-08 Season: Appeared in 19 games as a freshman ... Made his Catamount debut against George Mason ... Scored his first career point in a 91-71 win over NJIT ... Scored a career-high eight points and grabbed three rebounds in a 73-68 road victory over Harvard ... Notched two points and two rebounds in a victory over Maine ... Raked in a career-high five rebounds in a 89-58 home win versus Maine.
Prior to UVM: Kissel is a 6-foot-9 post player who will look to compete right away down low for the Catamounts this season ... A native of Springfield, Mass., he played for two seasons at Cathedral High School as a freshman and sophomore in his hometown and wrapped up his high school career at St. Andrews in Barrington, R.I. ... A team captain as a senior, Kissel averaged 16 points, 11 rebounds, 2 blocks and 1 assist per game on the year ... A McDonald’s All-American nominee, he also had his number retired at St. Andrews.
Personal: Is the son of Thomas and Mary Ellen Kissel ... Has two sisters (Bridget and Annie) and one brother (Tommy) ... Is a sociology major.
