Dominic G. Cote 1951 - Baseball, Football

A former UVM football and baseball standout, Dominic Cote later was a very successful high school football coach in Branford, Conn. Inducted into the UVM Hall of Fame in 1991, he earned his place in UVM's athletic shrine with ever so impressive statistics racked up on the football and baseball fields.

Cote lettered in football for three seasons and set the Catamount season and career punting average records (41.2 and 37.5 yards per punt). In baseball, Cote was an All-Vermont selection and hit .429 in 1951, then the third-best season batting average in UVM history.

Cote taught at the secondary level for 36 years, coaching football at Branford High School for nine seasons where his teams compiled a 48-28 record, including an undefeated and state championship season in 1958. Cote may have been better known for the French language text he authored than any athletic achievement. His Encouter et Parler, published by Holt, Rinehart and Winston in 1963, was hailed as one of the top language texts written for the secondary level. Still active as committee member for the Connecticut Interscholastic Conference, he retired from teaching in 1985.
