John "Seeley" Estabrook 1929 - Basketball, Football
A starter in both basketball and football, John Estabrook was one of the most respected athletes and students at Vermont during the late 20s, captaining the 1928-29 basketball team. An injury cut back his football career at Vermont, when he was a starting quarterback and halfback in 1927. "Seeley" Estabrook, a 1979 UVM Hall of Fame inductee, was a regular guard for the basketball team throughout his varsity career.
As an undergraduate, he was involved in many student activities, serving as his class president, president of Key and Serpent, Student Senate and Student Faculty Council and delivered the Founder's Day address at Commencement.
Dr. Estabrook graduated from UVM's School of Medicine in 1933. He became a practicing physician in Brandon, Vt. and continued his athletic ways becoming one of the top sailors in the area and an avid outdoorsman. The youth baseball diamonds in Brandon are named Estabrook Field.
