George Deane '01 & '03 | Video Introduction
An America East All-Conference performer in both cross country and track and field, Deane was one of the top runners in New England during his career and is considered one of the best middle distance runners in UVM's track and field history. At the time of his graduation, Deane owned five different school records. He posted the second-fastest time in the 3,000-meters (indoor) and the third-fastest time in the 800-meters (indoor & outdoor) in UVM history. His times still rank among the top-10 in program history in five different events. Deane, who competed in races that ranged from 800 meters to 10K cross country distances, won the America East Indoor Championship in the 1,000-meters in 2001 and added an outdoor title in the 1,500-meters in 2002. Deane also won the 1,500-meter race at the New England Outdoor Track & Field Championships. In his final race as a Catamount, Deane set the UVM school record in the 1,500-meter at the IC4A Championships. He also held the distinction as the only America East runner to defeat multiple All-American Jochen Dieckfoss of Boston University during his career.
