Hardy was a three-time NCAA All-American for the UVM ski team as a freshman, sophomore, and senior. As a freshman, he won the giant slalom individual national title at the NCAA National Championships in Stowe, Vermont as the Catamounts finished second overall in the team standings. He helped the Cats win five out of six EISA carnivals in each of his first two seasons. As a sophomore, he won seven EISA races, including the giant slalom and slalom events at the EISA Championships. Hardy later received Ski Racing Magazine's College Skier of the Year award. Prior to his UVM career, he was also a member of the U.S. Ski Team.
