Libero A. Giardi 1936 - Football, Wrestling
A fullback and end on the Catamount football eleven, Libero Giardi, a 1983 UVM Hall of Fame inductee, earned a number of honors in his three-year varsity career.
As team captain in 1935, playing fullback, Giardi was a unanimous selection to the Vermont All-State first team. In his junior season, 1934, he garnered honorable mention recognition as an end on the Associated Press All-Eastern squad.
Also a stellar student, Giardi was the 1936 recipient of the university's Wasson Athletic Prize, awarded to the senior who maintained the highest standard of academic scholarship and athletic attainment.
In addition to playing football, he was the top UVM wrestler in the 175-lb. class as a freshman, and reigned as the Catamounts' heavyweight champion for three years.
A mechanical engineering major at UVM, Giardi was one of the founders of Universal Design of Hartford, Conn.
