Malcolm L. "Bud" Russell 1993 - Track and Field
One of the finest track and field performers in the history of the Catamount program in the late 50's, "Bud" Russell, a 1993 UVM Hall of Fame inductee, culminated his fine career with a New England championship in the javelin throw in 1958.
Coached by 1970 UVM Athletic Hall of Fame inductee, A.T. "Archie" Post, Russell established a UVM and Vermont Collegiate javelin distance recored of 197'10" in 1958, a record that held up for many years.
Russell's competitive spirit wasn't left in Burlington, Vt., as he went on to set several regional distance records in the javelin in Idaho, Montana and New England in the Masters Divisions of the U.S.A. Track and Field Association. Russell has been ranked in the Top Five in his age group in national competition and in 1991, recorded a third place in the javelin at the national championships.
A Scientific and Engineering Project Manager with EG&G Idaho in Idaho Falls, Idaho, he recently received a 35-year service award for employment both as a manager and individual contributor at the Idaho National Engineering Laboratory. Russell made a contribution to studying and imporving the safety of nuclear power reactors.
