Michael Stamer 1986 - Baseball

One of the baseball team's top power hitters of his era at UVM, Michael Stamer earned all-conference honors on the field and was the winner of the 1986 Wasson Athletic Prize for academic and athletic achievement. A 2002 Hall of Fame inductee, Stamer ended his career tied for first all-time in home runs (10) and was second in hits (110), runs batted in (65) and total bases (162) while bettering his batting average in each of his four seasons.

A solid defensive right fielder, he possessed an outstanding outfield throwing arm picking up 11 assists in his career. A native of Westfield, NJ, he saw action 16 of the 19 games in his freshman year hitting .283 with 10 RBI. He became a fixture in right field for the Cats begining as a sophomore and played there in all 93 games his last three seasons. He hit .297, fourth on the team, as a sophomore and was third on the team with 19 RBI.

During the spring trip to Florida, Stamer earned a spot on the Stetson Classic All-Tournament team. Stamer had a breakout season at the plate as a junior leading the team with a .321 average and a .500 slugging percentage. His four home runs tied for the team lead and at the time were third best in UVM history.

In 1986 he was the team captain and his career-highs in average (.341) and RBI (23) led the team. He hit four home runs again to take over the career homer lead. Following the season he was named to the ECAC North All-Conference First-Team.
