Peter E. Weiss 1964 - Football, Track and Field

During his collegiate career, Peter Weiss, a 1994 UVM Hall of Fame inductee, won a total of nine varsity letters, collecting three each in football, indoor track and outdoor track.

As a sophomore, Weiss led the Catamount football team in pass interceptions and he was also selected a first-team offensive halfback on the ECAC All-East small college team. As a senior in 1963, Weiss caught 15 passes for 209 yards to lead the Catamounts.

In outdoor track, Weiss established a UVM record when he ran a 14.9 in the 120-yard hurdles. Earlier, he had tied the freshman record, running a 15.4. As a senior he won the Vermont state championship in both the low and high hurdles, placed second in the Yankee Conference and was third in the high hurdles in the New England Championships.

Weiss was a member of the Sigma Delta Psi National Athletic Fraternity. Following his graduation from UVM, Weiss was a teacher and coach while earning two master's degrees from the University of Massachusetts.

In 1970, he accepted a full-time teaching position at Holyoke Community College in Holyoke, Mass., where he also coached on a part-time basis. Weiss then earned his PhD from UMass.
