Raymond E. Palmer 1935 - Baseball, Basketball

When the subject of University of Vermont basketball is brought up - particularly the Green and Gold basketball era of the 1930s - 1975 Athletic Hall of Fame inductee Raymond 'Whitey' Palmer is usually discussed.

Considered the classiest basketball player of the 1930s at UVM, he was a three-year starter captaining the team as a senior in 1935. The State of Vermont's top collegiate hoop player his junior and senior years, he also was a member of the Vermont baseball team for three seasons.

In addition to basketball and baseball, Palmer was active in Delta Psi Fraternity and was the president of his Class of 1935. He was a member of Key and Serpent, Gold Key and Boulder, all academic honoraries. Following graduation, he served for many years on the University's Athletic Council.

Whitey is a charter member of the Burlington Kiwanis Club and he is particularly proud of the fact that he, along with many people like co-Hall of Famer, Ed Bartlett, began the Burlington Little League and that the Kiwanis Club founded the Burlington Boys Club, of which was extremely active for many years. He was president of the American Little League for many years.
