Roger Bryant Special Inductee - Athletic Trainer

Roger Bryant, through his work as Athletic Trainer at UVM for 27 years, played a special and important part in the lives of hundreds of UVM athletes, earning him induction into the Athletic Hall of Fame in 1994. A caring person with skills to soothe both physical and emotional wounds, Bryant was a confidant and father-figure to many athletes.

UVM's main Athletic Training Room at Patrick Gym was named in his honor in 2003. As head trainer from 1965 until his retirement in 1992, Bryant was trainer for the football team, and for many years the hockey team.

In addition to treating hundreds of injured athletes, Bryant also nurtured the talents of many future athletic trainers. His assistants over the years included: Don Owens (Colorado); Elwood "Ike" Isley, who replaced Bryant as head trainer in 1992; Kathy Friend; fellow UVM Athletic Hall of Fame member Lisa Fernandez; Deb Belcher (Brown) and Becca Lindsay.

A longtime resident of Hinesburg, Vt., his son, Dan (UVM '79), was a men's soccer player at Vermont and captained the Catamounts in 1978. Bryant passed away in 2005.
