Roland J. Delfausse 1935 - Baseball, Football, Track and Field

Like many of the athletes inducted in Vermont's Athletic Hall of Fame, Delfausse, inducted in 1976, was an outstanding athlete and a top scholar. A member of Phi Beta Kappa, he was on the football, track and baseball teams, captaining the track team his senior year.

Delfausse was one of the most versatile trackmen ever at UVM, participating in the 100 and 220 dashes; broad jump, shot put and javelin. He is still the holder of the 220 record (21.8) set in 1934. Delfausse won the 220 event at the Eastern Intercollegiate meet in 1934 and ran a 9.9 100, which was a Vermont record until Billy Howard broke that in 1950.

In addition to track, Rollie played football (1932-34) and baseball (1933-34), playing first string end in football for two seasons before moving into the backfield his senior year and centerfield in baseball, hitting over .380 in 10 games in 1934.

He won the Wasson Athletic Prize in the spring of his senior year (1935). A cum laude graduate of UVM, he later received his Masters degree in 1940 from Denver University, where he studied under an Alfred P. Sloan Foundation Fellowship. Delfausse is a past president of the UVM Alumni Association (1964-65).
