Ronald B. Hertel 1965 - Football
Ron Hertel, a 1988 UVM Hall of Fame inductee, was an outstanding lineman on some of the most successful teams in the history of football at Vermont. He was a three-time varsity letterwinner during which the Catamounts carved out a 16-8 record including a 13-3 mark in his last two seasons.
As a senior in 1964 he was the team captain as UVM posted a 7-1 record, the best season in the program history. Hertel was named to the All-Yankee Conference Second Team for his efforts in leading the offensive line. That season he also played every game with a bad knee that may have sidelined many other players. "Ron was an inspirational leader on the football field and is now proving to be a successful leader in the corporate world," said his coach, Bob Clifford. Hertel also twice earned All-State honors for the Catamounts.
After graduation he went on to become a vice president of Prudential-Bache Investments in Boston.
