Wesley T. Abell 1916 - Football

Truly one of the great friends, and alumni, of the University of Vermont, Wesley T. Abell was inducted into the UVM Hall of fame in 1972.

A member of the class of '16, he was a former great lineman on the Catamount football team, has been a long-time friend, and follower of the University's athletic program. And, because of his contribution on the gridiron, and off, the University's Athletic Council voted to have the Most Valuable Lineman Award named after Wesley T. Abell, Class of 1916.

At Vermont, Abell was not only active in athletics. The popular sportsman served as Class President for the Class of 1916, was a member of Key and Serpent and for many years served as the Secretary of the Kappa Sigma fraternity house.

Wes continued his contribution to the University, specifically the athletic program, as he served on the University's Athletic Hall of Fame Committee for two years, including the first year of its inception in 1969. More than anyone, Abell was the major contributor during the drafting of the Athletic Hall of Fame By-Laws.
