KANSAS CITY, MO. – Vermont senior forward
Brian Wright capped off a decorated career with a 2016 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) NCAA Division I Men's All-America Second Team selection on Friday. Wright becomes only the eighth Catamount to earn All-American honors and the first since Keli Helgason '03 in 2002.

Wright adds another award to his trophy case as his postseason list of accolades already includes NSCAA All-East Region First Team, America East All-Conference First Team, and ECAC All-Star Honorable Mention selections. He was also one of fifteen semifinalists for the Missouri Athletic Conference (MAC) Hermann Trophy, the most coveted individual honor for Division I soccer.
"Brian has a lethal combination of being a really good person, a remarkable talent with a rare passion for the game of soccer, which grew into a relentless drive to be the best," head coach
Jesse Cormier said about Wright. "The reality is, because of his eagerness to improve he only missed one practice in four years and did countless more on his own. He put in the time to be the best and a legend in the program. His parents deserve credit too, he has been raised well and to be humble, and constantly improve himself. We have someone who is the best at what he does. This is a proud moment for everyone, teammates, coaches, our department, and the university. "
Wright's final campaign in Catamount Country included 12 assists which tied him for the most among Division I men's soccer statistical leaders. He ranked second in the country in total points (40), scored the fourth-most game-winning goals (6), and sat fifth in goals scored (14) by the end of the season. The Ajax, Ontario native is only the second player in program history to record over 100 career points (103) behind UVM's all-time leading scorer John Koerner '78 (116). He set the Vermont single-season points record (39) with a hat trick in a 4-1 victory over Rider in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, only the third NCAA Tournament home victory in program history.
The 2016 squad won 14 games and became only the second UVM team to win at least 14 games. Over the past two seasons, Vermont has won more games (24) than any other program in America East. Wright's career list of accolades includes four America East All-Conference selections, three NSCAA All-East Region honors, two America East All-Tournament Teams, the America East Tournament Most Outstanding Player Award last year, and America East Rookie of the Year honors in 2013.
