BURLINGTON, Vt. – The University of Vermont women's hockey program has added Melissa Bizzari and
Roxanne Douville to the coaching staff. Bizzari will serve as the Director of Hockey Operations for the Catamounts and Douville will be the volunteer goaltender coach. Head coach
Jim Plumer made the announcement today.
Bizzari, a native of Stowe, Vermont comes to the Catamounts after four seasons playing for Boston College. Bizzari recorded 38 goals and 38 assists for 76 points in 138 career games for the Eagles. The Eagles advanced to the NCAA tournament in all four of Bizzari's seasons including the Frozen Four three times.
Last season she served as an assistant captain and was named to the Hockey East All-Academic team for the third time in her career. Before college Bizzari played at NAHA, located in Stowe. Four current Catamounts are also NAHA graduates.
Douville, a native of Beloeil, Quebec will remain a Catamount as a coach after rewriting the Vermont record book last season. Douville set a program record with 14 wins and was named a Hockey East First-Team All Star for the second consecutive year. She was 12-5-1 in conference play last season with a 1.82 goals-against average and a .941 save-percentage.
"I am thrilled to welcome two excellent Hockey East graduates to my staff," said Plumer. "It's been easy for anyone to see Roxanne's skill as a goaltender, but I have been especially impressed with her interest in coaching and I know she will bring passion as well as her knowledge of goaltending to the position. Our goalies and our entire team will benefit from having her on board."
"Melissa is a real student of the game and is a perfect fit for our program as we expand our use of video and analytics. This is a fantastic opportunity for our program to have another bright hockey mind on staff and I am looking forward to working closely with Melissa in this new position."
Vermont is coming off a fourth-place finish in Hockey East with a program record 18 wins. The team's record-breaking campaign marked an NCAA-best 10-win improvement over the previous season. The Catamounts return their top six scorers and 89.2 percent of their scoring for the 2014-15 season.
Vermont opens the 2014-15 season with a 7 p.m. exhibition tilt against McGill on Friday September 26. The Catamounts complete regular season schedule will be released next week.
