BURLINGTON, Vt. – Senior forward
Amanda Pelkey and junior defenseman
Gina Repaci have been chosen to represent their countries in a three-game Canada/US series August 21-24 in Calgary, Alberta, at Canada Olympic Park.
For Montpelier, Vermont native
Amanda Pelkey this is an honor she has been building towards throughout her career at UVM. She has been invited to several selection camps but this is the first time since representing the US in the 2009 and 2010 IIHF World Women's U18 Championship that she will suit up for a national team.
Pelkey enjoyed a career year for Vermont last season setting the single-season program records with 21 goals and 40 points. She was named a Second-Team Hockey East All Star.
Gina Repaci, a Toronto, Ontario native, has capped off a breakout sophomore season to earn an invite on Canada's National Women's Development Team. Repaci became the first Catamount defenseman to be named a Second-Team Hockey East All Star as she recorded three goals and 13 assists this past season.
Repaci won a silver medal as a member of the Canadian National Under-18 team at the 2011 IIHF World Women's Under-18 Championship.
"It's such a thrill for all of the staff and players of our program to see Amanda and Gina represent the U.S. and Canada on their respective U-22 teams," said head coach
Jim Plumer.
"They have both worked very hard this summer and have really risen to the occasion to earn this opportunity. I look forward to seeing them suit up against each other on Thursday in Calgary and I am excited to see what they bring back to Gutterson Fieldhouse from this experience."
The puck drops on the three-game series on Wednesday August 21 (8:30 p.m. ET/5:30 p.m. PT), with other games scheduled for Thursday August 22 (5 p.m. ET/2 p.m. PT) and Saturday August 24 (noon ET/9 a.m. PT).
