America East ReleaseCAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Vermont's
Nikki McFarland and
Sarah Martin earned the first weekly women's soccer honors from the America East Conference on Monday. McFarland, a sophomore forward, was named the America East Co-Player of the Week and Martin, a freshman forward, was named the league's rookie of the week.
McFarland, who shared the player of the week honor with Hartford's Chanel Johnson, scored the game-winning goal in overtime to lift UVM past Youngstown State, 3-2. With the win Vermont won the TD Bank Classic title for the first time since 2009 and third time overall. She also added a goal and provided the game-winning assist in Vermont's 3-2 double-overtime victory over Central Connecticut in the season opener.
McFarland was named to the TD Bank Classic All-Tournament Team and has scored a goal in four straight games dating back to last season.

Martin added a goal in the 3-2 overtime win against Youngstown State and earned a spot on the TD Bank Classic All-Tournament Team.
Vermont starts the season at 2-0 for the first time since 2003 and won back-to-back overtime games for the first time since 2001. The Catamounts also scored three or more goals in back-to-back games for the first time since 1997.
