BOSTON  – Former captain
Amanda Pelkey became the second player to officially sign with an National Women's Hockey League (NWHL) franchise as she joined the Boston Pride. Pride general manager Hayley Moore made the announcement Monday.
Â
"
Amanda Pelkey is a huge offensive threat," said Moore. "Her speed and skill truly set her apart as the leading scorer in UVM women's hockey history. Pelkey has a knack for the net, and creates plays that will absolutely wow you. Any team would be lucky to add a prolific goal scorer to their roster, we couldn't be happier to have found that with our signing of Amanda today."

Â
Pelkey finisher her career at UVM as the Catamounts all-time leader in goals, assists, and points. She became the first Catamount in program history to reach the 100-point plateau. She was also the first player from UVM to play for the U.S. senior national team at the 2014 Four Nations Cup.
Â
Vermont head coach
Jim Plumer spoke about her career going forward, "What a fantastic honor for Amanda to be the first-ever player to sign with the Boston Pride. She will not only be an excellent player for them, but will be a great ambassador for professional women's hockey in Boston. We wish her the best."
Â
In the NWHL release Pelkey explained why the Pride was such a good fit for her, "Boston is a place where I have always wanted to be. Now, getting the chance to be here after college is a great opportunity for me to grow as a player and person, on and off the ice."
Â
The NWHL will launch its inaugural season later this year with four teams: New York, Boston, Connecticut Whale and Buffalo Beauts. More information about the NWHL is available atÂ
