Rider Highlights
Wright will go down in the record books as one of the best scorers to ever don a Catamount uniform. Wright is only the second player in program history to record over 100 career points. He finished his final campaign in Burlington with 12 assists which tied him for the most among Division I men's soccer statistical leaders. He ranked second in the country in total points (40), scored the fourth-most game-winning goals (6), and sat fifth in goals scored (14) by season's end. Wright set the single-season points record (39) in a 4-1 victory over Rider in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, only the third NCAA Tournament home victory in program history.
The 2016 squad won 14 games and became only the second UVM team to win at least 14 games. Over the past two seasons, Vermont has won more games (24) than any other program in America East. Wright's career list of accolades includes four America East All-Conference selections, two All-East Region honors, two All-Tournament Teams, and the America East Tournament Most Outstanding Player Award last year and America East Rookie of the Year in 2013.
The MAC Hermann Trophy, the most coveted individual honor in NCAA Division I soccer, has been awarded annually since 1967. Wright becomes the first-ever Catamount to be named as a MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist.
Three men's finalists and three women's finalists will be named on Wednesday, December 14 at the conclusion of voting by NCAA Division I soccer coaches. The 2016 MAC Hermann Trophy banquet will be held at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis on Friday, January 6, 2017 to formally announce this year's winners.
