2016 Women's World Championship Website Kolowrat was one of the three goaltenders, seven defensemen and 13 forwards named to the roster by head coach Jiri Vozak. Kolowrat and Northeastern's Denisa Krizova are the only two players on the roster who played college hockey this season.
"It's a great honor for Sammy, and her teammates and coaches at UVM to see her represent the Czech national team at the World Championships," said head coach
Jim Plumer. "Sammy worked very hard to improve with us during her first year at Vermont and I'm excited to see how she and her Czech teammates do as they compete at the highest level in Kamloops. It's particularly satisfying to see UVM represented on three of the world's top eight teams this year as Sammy joins
Saana Valkama '19 (Finland), and
Amanda Pelkey '15 (USA) on the biggest stage in women's hockey outside of the Olympics."
Kolowrat made her senior national team debut for the Czech Republic at the 2013 Women's World Championship, which was hosted in Ottawa, Ontario. Last spring, she competed with the senior national team at the Division One World Championships in Rouen, France. Kolowrat and the Czechs went 5-0-0 in the tournament to earn promotion to this year's championship in Kamloops, British Columbia.
Sammy played in 35 games for the Catamounts during her freshman campaign and registered a goal and three assists for four points. Kolowrat scored her first career collegiate goal shorthanded in Vermont's 3-2 win over New Hampshire on the road February 6.
The Czech National Team will open the 2016 Women's World Championship tonight at 8 p.m. (ET) as they face Sweden in Group B play.
