Hockey East Release
It is the first Hockey East monthly honor for the Longueuil, Québec native and engineering major. This award also continues a very decorated stretch for Picard, who was named to the conference's All-Rookie Team earlier Wednesday and picked up Rookie of the Week mention on Monday (Feb. 27).
Picard laced up her skates in each of Vermont's nine games last month (as well as all 37 on the season), amassing six goals and six assists in the process to lead her teammates with 12 points. She began the month with a three-game point streak that included a goal on February 3 against New Hampshire, in front of a Hockey East record-setting crowd of 2,136 at Gutterson Fieldhouse.
More recently, she has signed the scoresheet in four of her last five games dating back to the regular season. That sequence saw Picard play an integral role in UVM's series win over Providence in the Hockey East Quarterfinals. She scored a goal and set up
Cassidy Campeau in Game 1 of the series (Feb. 24) before proceeding to notch Vermont's first-ever postseason penalty shot goal in the weekend's middle contest (Feb. 25).
In Sunday's (Feb. 26) decisive Game 3 down in the Ocean State, Picard buried a power play goal in the first period and sent the Catamounts into celebration with an empty netter late in the third stanza, vaulting UVM to its second Hockey East Semifinals appearance and first since 2014.
To date, Picard has registered 30 points this season on 16 goals and 14 assists. Both her 16 goals and 30 total points are the most by a Vermont freshman in varsity program history.
Just three days separate the Catamounts from their league semifinal meeting with top-seed Boston College. That game will take place on Saturday (March 4) at 1:30 p.m. from Walter Brown Arena in Boston, with the winner advancing to face either Boston University or Northeastern for the conference title. Tickets can be purchased
in advance via Ticketmaster or by calling (800) 745-3000.
