BURLINGTON, Vt. – Vermont women's hockey head coach
Jim Plumer has named Josh Liegl as an assistant coach for the upcoming 2017-18 season. Liegl comes to Burlington after stints as a Division I assistant coach at Dartmouth, Ohio State, RPI, Colgate, and AIC.
"I've known Josh for over 10 years and I feel extremely fortunate to have someone with Josh's experience join us at UVM," said Plumer. "Living relatively close by, Josh attended many of our games last year and I feel that he knows our team already and will be able fit in well with our staff and our player development philosophy. I'm particularly excited that Josh and
Jess Koizumi have 20 years combined experience in coaching Division I women's hockey."
Liegl was previously an assistant coach at Dartmouth for five seasons and helped the Big Green produce one of the top power plays in the country, ranking second nationally in 2014-15 (25.8-percent) and seventh in 2015-16 (20.9-percent). He coached a pair of All-Ivy League First Team performers in Lindsey Allen and Laura Stacy, who is currently a member of Canada's Senior Women's National Team.
The U.S. Women's National Team hired Liegl as a video coach for the 2011 Four Nations Cup in Sweden. Prior, he was an assistant coach at Ohio State for three seasons from 2008-11, coaching numerous All-WCHA selections and national team members for four different countries.
Liegl spent two years coaching at RPI (2006-08) and Colgate (2004-06) after beginning his Division I career at American International College in 2001. He also coached two years at the University of Findlay in Ohio from 2002-04.
As a player, Liegl was a standout goaltender at Marian College in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, serving two years as a team captain and being named a two-time team MVP. He was selected to the 1999 All-Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association Second Team.
