BURLINGTON, Vt. – A pair of alpine skiers with Catamount ties have been selected to compete for Canada at the 2018 Winter Olympics next month in PyeongChang, South Korea. Current Catamount
Laurence St. Germain will compete in alpine, while former UVM standout
Kevin Drury has been selected in ski cross.
"We are extremely proud of the fact that Laurence and Kevin have earned the right to represent their country on the world's largest stage," said head coach
Bill Reichelt. "Our entire program looks forward to watching both compete next month."
Last year, St. Germain finished the Nor-Am Cup season ranked second overall in slalom. She represented Canada at the FIS Alpine World Cup in November at Killington, placing 14th overall. The Quebec native took third in the slalom event at the 2016 Canadian National Championships at Whistler.
Through three collegiate seasons at Vermont, St. Germain is a three-time All-American and was the national runner-up in the slalom as a sophomore in 2016. She has also been named to the EISA All-East First Team each of the last two seasons.

Drury will make his Olympic debut after closing the 2016-17 season ranked eighth in the ski cross World Cup standings, making him the second-ranked Canadian. The Toronto native recently earned his first World Cup podium in December by finishing second in Arosa, Switzerland. Canada has posted the most World Cup points by any nation in each of the last two seasons.
Drury skied on the alpine team at UVM from 2009-14. In 2011, he was the runner-up in the giant slalom at the NCAA Championships and was a First Team All-American in slalom. He later earned NCAA All-America Second Team honors in both slalom and giant slalom in 2014.
Tommy Biesemeyer, who spent a semester at UVM during the rehabilitation of his knee, was also selected to the United States Olympic alpine team.
Women's slalom is scheduled for Feb. 14 at the Yongpyong Alpine Centre, while ski cross will take place Feb. 21-23 at the Phoenix Snow Park.
