BURLINGTON, Vt. – Former UVM skiing standout Jonathan Nordbotten '14 has been named to the Norweigan Alpine Ski Team for the upcoming Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea. Nordbotten is the seventh current or former Catamount to earn a spot on a 2018 Olympic roster, and the fourth who has competed for the Vermont ski program.
Since graduation, Norbotten has competed for Norway on the FIS World Cup circuit beginning with the 2014-15 season. He is currently ranked 18th in the World Cup rankings in men's slalom and is coming off a pair of top-10 finishes at last weekend's FIS slalom events in Kitzbuehel and Schladming, Austria.
Norbotten was a five-time All-American and won the NCAA National Championship in the giant slalom in 2013 for the Catamounts. He helped the Catamounts win the 2012 NCAA Championship and earn national runner-up honors in his final season in 2014. Vermont also won four straight EISA Championships during his career.
The Olympic men's slalom will be contested on Thursday, Feb. 22 at the Yongpyong Alpine Centre. The Winter Olympics will be broadcast on NBC, NBCSN, and the networks of NBC Universal. Every Olympic event will be available to stream live and on-demand on NBCOlympics.com and the NBC Sports app.
