AMHERST, Mass. –
Samantha Sayer won the women's 5000m Saturday in Amherst as members of the Vermont Outdoor Track & Field team competed at the Minutemen Invitational and the final day of the 54th annual Colonial Relays. The Vermont women finished fifth overall at the Minutemen Invitational with 54 points, the men finished seventh overall with 40 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Sayer won the 5000m in a time of 17:42.18, defeating the second-place finisher by 2.8 seconds. Last year at the Minutemen Invitational she was also the 5000m champion.
- Lauren Trumble finished fifth overall in the 800m invitational heat at the Colonial Relays. Her time of 2:10.02 was the fourth fastest outdoor performance of her career. Trumble earned four team points for UVM with her performance. With over 50 teams competing in Williamsburg she collected all of the Catamounts points as they finished tied for 29th overall.
- John Benner earned 12 team points for the Catamounts in Amherst. He finished second overall in the 1500m in a time of 3:54.38. In the 800m the junior placed fifth in 1:55.37.
- Neville Caulfield led the Catamounts in the men's 3000m steeplechase. He placed second overall in a time of 9:13.88. Caulfield finished second in the event last season at UMass as well.
- Freshman Mia Grasso ran a personal best 1:04.60 in the 400m hurdles earning a second-place result worth eight team points.
- Dina John earned four team points for UVM at UMass in the 800m. A personal best time of 2:17.61 paced her to a fifth-place finish. Her teammate Ava Meyer finished just behind John in sixth place.
WHAT'S NEXT
Members of the Catamounts Track & Field team will travel Friday (April 12) to a Quad Meet hosted by Dartmouth College. Vermont will compete against UMass Lowell, Hartford and the host Big Green. Action starts at 1 p.m. from Memorial Field.
On Saturday and Sunday Vermont will host the Catamount Heptathlon at the Frank H. Livak Track & Field Facility. Competition will begin at 11 a.m. on both days.
