Alex Gettens '17 was hired as an assistant coach in 2018, the 2022-23 campaign will be his fifth with the Catamounts. He spent the 2017-18 season at the University of Maine following his time as a student assistant with the Catamounts.
During his time at Maine, Gettens was involved in all aspects of the Black Bear program including practice, skill sessions, film sessions, pre-scout analysis, and recruiting. Gettens was also responsible for the logistical planning of all road trips, day-to-day equipment needs, and the coordination of team community service.
He and the Maine staff led the Black Bears to their most successful season in program history with 19 wins. Maine defeated Boston University in three games in the Hockey East Quarterfinals before suffering a loss to Northeastern in the semifinal. Head coach Richard Reichenbach was named Hockey East Coach of the Year following the historic season.
Gettens served as a student assistant with the Catamounts in 2016-17 and worked as the goalie coach, planning and conducting weekly goalie sessions. He was also an assistant to hockey operations at UVM from 2014-16.
During his collegiate career, Gettens worked as an intern coach at the USA Hockey U15 and U18 National Development Camps. He was also a girls assistant coach while attending St. Paul's School in Concord, New Hampshire and won the 2015 New England Prep Championship.
