Moser

Scott Moser

  • Title
    Associate Head Coach
Moser is entering his fourth season in Catamount Country and second as Associate Head Coach. With the Catamounts Moser has overseen the forwards and power play. In each of Moser's three seasons at Vermont the Catamounts have increased their win total. In 2023 Vermont defeated Maine in the Hockey East Opening Round earning its first postseason win since 2018.

On the international scene he has coached Slovakia at the last four World Junior (U-20) Championships. With the Slovakians he ran the forwards and power play. At the 2023 World Juniors in Nova Scotia the Slovaks finished second in the tournament with a power play clicking at 45%. Over the last few seasons with the Slovak program Moser has coached over 20 NHL draft picks, including five first rounders, and first & second overall picks Juraj Slafkovsky and Simon Nemec.

In Moser's first season at RPI, the Tonawanda, N.Y., native helped the Engineers to one of their best seasons as they went 17-15-2, including four straight victories to conclude the regular season. Their 13-8-1 ECAC Hockey record was good enough for a fourth-place finish and a first round postseason berth. Several student-athletes earned postseason league honors, including Will Reilly, who went on to sign an NHL contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Moser oversaw RPI's penalty kill unit which ranked second in the ECAC (86.8%) and 12th nationally. Moser's other coaching concentration was forward development, which will be a primary responsibility of his at UVM.

While at Canisius, Moser and the Golden Griffins captured their first regular season championship in 2016-17 and made three appearances in the Atlantic Hockey Final Four. That Canisius staff recruited two Hobey Baker Top 10 Finalists and two league Players of the Year. Outside of collegiate hockey, Moser has coached at the USA Hockey National Camps since 2014.

As a two-sport Division I athlete, Moser was captain of the Canisius men's hockey team during the 2011-12 campaign and appeared in 134 career games for the Golden Griffins. A two-time recipient of the team's Dr. David B. Dietz Award, he was a nominee for the national Hockey Humanitarian Award in 2011 and the Derek Hines Unsung Hero Award in 2012. He was also a four-year starter in golf at Canisius and went on to be the assistant golf coach at St. Lawrence University while working with their women's hockey program.

Moser earned his Bachelor's in Management and Marketing in 2012 and his Master's in Sport Administration in 2014.  His wife, Kelly and sons Cal and Mick are excited to spend their weekends at the Gutterson Fieldhouse cheering on the Catamounts.
