FINAL SCORE: Wagner 161, Vermont 139 | Results
BURLINGTON, Vt. – The Vermont swimming and diving team won eight events, but fell to Wagner by a score of 161-139 in the Catamounts' season-opening meet Saturday at Forbush Natatorium.

Vermont set a new pool record in the 200 free relay in a time of 1:37.50.

Sarah Mantz, Gray and Weaver posted a first-place finish while breaking the old pool record of 1:37.78.
The Catamounts opened the meet with a come-from-behind victory in the 200 medley relay.

Shannon Cowley,
Courtney Gray and
Christa Weaver combined to swim the 200 in 1:47.21 to take first place. Weaver made up ground on the final leg to lead UVM to the win.
Weaver also collected two individual victories on the afternoon in both the 50 (24.15) and 100 (52.72) freestyle events, while Mantz registered a first-place time of 1:55.58 in the 200 free. In the 50 free, Blaser (24.85) and Gray (24.97) notched second and third-place showings, as the Catamounts swept the top three spots in the event.

Freshman
Shannon Cowley collected a victory in the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:06.05 in her first collegiate meet, and Gray rounded out the UVM victories in the swimming events with a first-place finish in the 100 fly (58.03).

In the diving competition, junior
Maggie Preston posted Vermont's top score of the day. Preston took first place in the 3-meter dive with a score of 214.30.

With the win, Wagner moves to 2-0 on the year, while Vermont falls to 0-1.
