Vermont (2-13) tied the game at 1-1 with just 13 seconds remaining in regulation. Off a penalty corner, freshman
Kyra Lee poked a pass to
Jackie Gillen, who one-timed a shot past Davidson goalie Emily Leytham to even the score.

In the overtime period, the Vermont defense caused a turnover deep in its own end and worked the ball to Gillen. The rookie sent a long pass ahead to Higgins, who broke into the Davidson zone for a one-on-one with the goalie. Higgins worked her way into the circle and fired a low shot past Leytham for the score. The goal was Higgins' second game-winner in the last four contests.

Davidson (2-14) scored the game's first goal in the 15
th minute of play. Melissa Funsten received a pass from Dodi Alloca and chipped a backhanded shot into the back of the net for her third goal of the year.

Lena Benwood stopped three shots for Vermont to earn her second victory of the season, while Leytham made five saves in the losing effort for Davidson.

The Catamounts out shot Davidson 10-9 in the game, including a 7-3 advantage in the first half. Vermont also held a 6-2 advantage over the Wildcats in pe
