BURLINGTON, Vt. - Nicole Granito tallied a pair of goals to lift Sacred Heart to a 3-1 victory over Vermont in a non-conference field hockey matchup at Moulton Winder Field on Sunday.
Sacred Heart (6-6) jumped out to a 1-0 lead midway through the first half on Granito's first tally. Nichole Tolli sent a pass to Granito, who finished off a one-timer from a couple yards out to give Sacred Heart the advantage.
Vermont (0-11) evened the score at 1-1 just over a minute later on
Taylor Gaines' team-leading fifth goal of the season. The Catamounts earned a penalty stroke after
Anne-Marie Farmer's shot on net hit a Pioneer defender's foot near the goal line. Gaines converted her third penalty stroke of the year to pull the Catamounts even.

In the 52
nd minute, Rachel Claroni sent a shot from the top of the circle towards goal, and Granito was able to deflect it into the back of the net to put the Pioneers on top, 2-1.

Just over four minutes later, Sarah Berman registered an unassisted goal to stretch the Pioneer lead to 3-1.
Sacred Heart was able to hold off Vermont for the remaining 15 minutes of play to earn their sixth victory.
Mary Altepeter made six saves to earn the win in goal for Sacred Heart, while
Lena Benwood stopped six shots in the Vermont net.
