SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Freshman
Sydney Smith drained six 3-pointers and scored a career-high 18 points to lead Vermont, but the No. 21-ranked Syracuse Orange placed six players in double figures to post a 94-63 win over the Catamounts at the Carrier Dome in non-conference women's basketball action on Monday.
Syracuse improves to 5-1 overall, while Vermont falls to 0-6 on the season.

Kylie Atwood paced the Vermont offense, combining for 10 of the team's 12 3-pointers in the contest. Atwood added 12 points, one shy of her career-high, behind four 3-pointers in the first half. Atwood also grabbed eight rebounds.
Niki Taylor came up just shy of a double-double with nine points and a team-high nine rebounds.
Diamond Henderson led Syracuse in scoring, netting 16 points. Cornelia Fondren added 14 points and eight rebounds and Isabella Slim grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds.
Syracuse led 11-2 to start the game, but a 12-0 run fueled by six points from Atwood, allowed UVM to climb all the way back and take a 14-11 lead at the 13:41 mark of the first half.
With the score tied up at 15, the Orange put together a 27-8 run, making 11-of-18 shots in the stretch and took a 42-29 lead into halftime.
Smith hit three straight 3-pointers for Vermont to slice the lead to six, 44-38, in the opening minutes of the second half. The Orange answered again with a decisive 20-0 run to pull away from the Catamounts. Syracuse maintained the double-digit advantage the rest of the way.
Vermont, which is playing three games in five days, travels to Fairfield, Connecticut to face Sacred Heart on Wednesday (Dec. 3). Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the game can be heard on WVMT-620 AM (online:
