POTSDAM, N.Y. – The fifth-ranked Clarkson Golden Knights scored two power play goals as they defeated Vermont 3-0 Saturday afternoon in non-conference action at Cheel Arena.

Molly Depew who was making her first start of the season.
Josiane Pozzebon stretched the Clarkson lead to two with her first career goal at the 13:59 mark of the first period. Along the point Loren Gabel passed across to Pozzebon who fired a shot through traffic and past Depew just as a Vermont penalty expired.
In the second period Clarkson capitalized on a five-on-three power play opportunity to stretch its lead to three at the 15:14 mark. Genevieve Bannon gathered the puck behind the net and fired a quick pass to Loren Gabel who beat Depew before she could cover the post.
Clarkson goaltender McKenzie Johnson made eight saves in the third period to preserve her first career shutout. Depew made 31 saves for Vermont in her first action of the season.
"We had an overall better effort today," said head coach
Jim Plumer. "We generated more offensive chances but it's obviously frustrating to not find the back of the net. Clarkson was the better team this weekend and it was a good learning experience for our young team."
The Catamounts return to action on Thursday night as they host St. Lawrence in the front end of another home-and-home series. Faceoff is set for 7 p.m. as the Saints make their first trip to Burlington since 2012.
