FINAL SCORE: Maine 3, Vermont 1 BURLINGTON, Vt. – The University of Vermont field hockey fell to Maine in a home conference-matchup on Sunday afternoon. Four different Catamounts were able to get shots off against the Black Bears but two late goals from Maine put them atop UVM, 3-1.

CatamounTV HighlightsVermont was force on the defensive end for the majority of the first half, as it was not until the 27th minute that Maine's Sydney Veljacic (11-2) was able to net the first goal of the game. Veljacic leads Maine in scoring with nine total goals on the season.
Despite five shots and two corner opportunities the Catamounts trailed Maine 1-0 at the end of the first half.
Maine took advantage of a corner early in the second half, as Cassidy Svetek scored the Black Bears second goal on an assist from Casey Crowley.
The Catamounts earned another corner minutes later and
Carla Godsman was able to connect a pass with
Taylor Gaines, who sent a shot past Maine's Emma Cochran closing the gap 2-1.
Maine freshman Libby Riedl earned her 20th career point as she secured Maine's two-goal victory with a goal in the 57th minute. Vermont goalkeeper
Lena Benwood was credited with four saves and registered 21 total on the weekend.
UVM returns to Moulton Winder Field on Sunday, Oct. 18 for a rematch against the Albany Great Danes at 2 p.m. All America East games will be streamed live for free at AmericaEast.tv.
