Lauren Tucker scored the Catamounts' lone goal.
RELATED LINKSBox Score Albany's Paula Heuser took advantage of a penalty corner and notched the first goal of the contest on assists from Anna Bottino and Laura Page in the 11th minute.
Tucker answered back for Vermont off a penalty corner as well, tying the score at one moments before the end of the half. The goal was Tucker's fifth of the season.
After the teams took to the field for the second half, starting UVM goalkeeper
Lena Benwood stopped four consecutive shots in the 38th minute.
Bottino and Page set up another give-and-go from a penalty corner attempt and Heuser struck again, finding the back of the net in the 49th minute. Liza Morgan added her third goal of the season for the Great Danes late in the second to secure the 3-1 victory.
Benwood was credited with 10 saves while the Catamounts registered eight total shots.
UVM returns to Moulton Winder Field on Sunday (Oct. 4) to host UMass Lowell in the annual Rally Against Cancer match and Cat Pride Appreciation Day. Game time is set for 1 p.m. All America East games will be streamed live for free at AmericaEast.tv.
FIELD HOCKEY HOSTS WEEKEND CLINICSThe University of Vermont field hockey program and staff will be hosting youth clinics on Saturday, Oct. 10 from 12-3 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 11 prior to their match vs. Maine.
Saturday's Junior Prospect Day Clinic will begin promptly at 12 p.m. This event is open to all high schoolers with a $50 fee that can be paid to UVM field hockey. Athletes are required to bring their own stick, shin guards, mouth guards and water bottles for the afternoon.
UVM field hockey will host Maine at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 11 at 1 p.m. Prior to this game there will be a free youth clinic on the field for ages 7-13. While athletes are welcome to bring their own gear, the UVM staff will be providing additional sticks and equipment.
