BURLINGTON, Vt. – Afonso Pinheiro scored twice and added an assist to lead the Albany Great Danes to a 3-0 victory over Vermont in America East men's soccer action at Virtue Field on Saturday.

At 26:02 of the first half, the Great Danes were awarded a penalty kick after a UVM defender was called for a handball. Pinheiro stepped up and converted the kick for his 10th goal of the year.

Albany pushed its lead to 3-0 in the 36th minute. A ball served into the box off a corner kick was headed in the air by several players, before falling to the foot of Jonathan Interiano and he buried a shot from close range for UA's second goal of the match.

Pinheiro closed out the scoring in the match for Albany in the 62nd minute. Teammate Phillip Persson sent a floating pass past the UVM defense and Pinheiro was able to track it down and slotted a low shot to the far post past UVM goalkeeper
Greg Walton.

Danny Vitiello was credited with four saves for Albany to pick up the win and shutout, while Walton also made four saves in the Vermont net.

Vermont closes out the regular season on Wednesday (Nov. 4) when it travels to Durham, New Hampshire to face the UNH Wildcats. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the game can be seen online for free via AmericaEast.tv.

The Catamounts have clinched a spot in the upcoming America East Playoffs, which begin with first round action on November 7. Final seeds will be announced following the completion of matches on Wednesday. Vermont will be making its 11th playoff appearance in head coach
