BOSTON – Senior forward Kendall Coyne scored two goals to become Hockey East's all-time leading scorer with 72 goals as No. 5 Northeastern defeated Vermont 5-2 at Matthews Arena Saturday afternoon.

After having their eight-game winning streak snapped at Boston College Friday night the Huskies scored early in the first period. Coyne picked up her first of the day 6:38 into the opening frame. She took a pass from Denisa Krizova and beat Vermont's
Molly Depew with a quick shot. With the tally Coyne became the fastest player in men's or women's Division I hockey to 20 goals on the season.

Coyne struck again minutes later to become the Hockey East all-time leading scorer with her 72
nd career goal. In the neutral zone Jordan Krause fed a pass to Coyne who used her speed to beat a Vermont defender before tapping the puck past Depew to make it 2-0 with 9:41 left in the first.

The Catamounts answered back early in the second period. Vermont caught the Huskies on a bad change and
Mackenzie MacNeil notched her second of the season past Northeastern's Brittany Bugalski at the 3:33 mark.
Amanda Drobot and
Daria O'Neill earned assists on Vermont's even strength tally.

Kasidy Anderson reestablished the Huskies two-goal lead with her fourth goal of the season with 25 seconds left in the middle frame. Anderson took a feed from Shelby Herrington and beat Depew with a backhand that bounced over her stick and in.

Victoria Andreakos and the Catamounts cut the lead back to one 7:21 into the third period. Andreakos scored her second goal of the weekend as she batted a pass from
Dayna Colang past Bugalski to make it 3-2.
Bella Webster also assisted on what was Andreakos' third goal of the season.

With 7:16 left in regulation Herrington pushed the Northeastern lead back to two goals with her seventh goal of the season. Herrington forced a turnover behind the Vermont net before skating out in front and roofing a shot past Depew.

Anderson made it her first career two-goal game minutes later as the Huskies pushed their lead to as she jammed home a rebound with 5:25 left in regulation. Adrieanna Rossini earned her first career collegiate point with the primary assist on Anderson's fifth goal of the season.

Bugalski made five third period saves and 16 total to pick up her 10
th win of the season. Depew made a season-high 35 saves for Vermont.
"This was another game where a quality effort didn't show in the result," said head coach
Jim Plumer. "We played one of the best first periods of the year and got back in the game in the second. But as has been our habit, we couldn't sustain the momentum."

Following Thanksgiving the Catamounts will welcome Boston University, Cornell, and Ohio State to Gutterson Fieldhouse for the inaugural Windjammer Classic. The action gets under way on Saturday November 28 as Cornell faces Boston University at 1 p.m. before the Catamounts take on Ohio State at 4 p.m. On Sunday November 29 the Terriers take on Ohio State at 1 p.m. and the Catamounts close out the tournament with a 4 p.m. tilt against Cornell.
