FINAL SCORE: No. 13 Stanford 5, Vermont 2
ALBANY, N.Y. – The University of Vermont field hockey team dropped its quarterfinal match of the America East playoffs to No. 13 Stanford on Thursday by a score of 5-2. Freshman duo Lauren Tucker and Landon Warren netted a goal each for the Catamounts as their season comes to a close.

The UVM defense came out strong in the opening minutes of the first half, holding the Cardinal offense to five shots and a single goal in 35 minutes. America East Offensive Player of the Year Maddie Secco dished a short pass to Caroline Beaudoin for the first Stanford goal and a 1-0 lead.
 
Tucker, a member of the America East All-Rookie Team and All-Conference Second Team, utilized a penalty corner to net the equalizer in the 33rd minute off assists from veterans Aria Robinson and Molly Higgins. The teams closed out the first half tied at one.
 
When action resumed on Alumni Turf, Warren snagged a loose ball in front of the Stanford goal and sent a quick shot past Dulcie Davies, the America East Goalkeeper of the Year, to give the Cats a 2-1 edge.
 
Secco answered back moments later with a pair of second half goals, followed by a successful penalty stroke attempt from Fran Tew to secure the Stanford victory. The 13th-ranked Cardinal (13-5) advances to the America East semifinal round on Saturday (Nov. 7).

UVM goalkeeper Lena Benwood was credited with seven saves. Vermont ends its season at 4-16 overall and 2-6 in America East play.
 
NOTES: Rookies have led the Catamounts in points back-to-back years as Tucker finishes her freshman campaign with seven goals and seven assists for 21 points … She also ranks 16th all-time in the UVM record book for points in a single season … Benwood ranks 11th among all Catamounts in career saves with 235 stops in two seasons … Molly Higgins, Aria Robinson, Kelsey Bonner, Lizzy Saward and Katie Murray played their final match for Vermont vs. Stanford on Thursday … Head coach Kate Pfeifer guided the squad to its first playoff appearance since 2007.
