BURLINGTON, Vt. – The Vermont men's soccer team remained unbeaten at home, posting 4-2 victory over visiting Marist in non-conference action at Virtue Field on Saturday.

Despite Marist holding a 7-4 edge in shots in the first 45 minutes, Vermont took the 1-0 lead into the break.
Wright netted his second goal of the game in the opening minutes of the second half. He collected the ball at midfield, made a solo run with the to beat the Marist defense and slotted a low shot past Marist goalkeeper Mark Rajovic to push UVM's lead to 2-0.
Bernard Yeboah added UVM's third goal of the match a little over two minutes later to give Vermont a 3-0 advantage.
Jaime Miralles sent a feed from the midfield up to the attack to
Stefan Lamanna. Lamanna quickly moved the ball across the endline and Yeboah finished off the sequence with a tap in goal. It was his second goal of the season.
Marist avoided the shutout in the 64th minute. Kevin Kappock's shot from the top of the penalty area was deflected by a UVM defender and slipped into the net at the far corner. Kappock's first tally of the year cut the lead to two.
Vermont pushed its lead back to three in the 72nd minute. Newcomer
Jerome Marinho headed in a cross from
Gideon Rosenthal for his first career goal as a Catamount.
Marist answered two minutes later on another low shot. Brian Coyt's shot from a sharp angle outside the penalty area hit the far post and bounced into the net to cut UVM's lead back to two, 4-2.
Rajovic was credited with three stops for Marist, while
Greg Walton made a season-high seven saves for Vermont. Marist finished the game holding a 12-11 edge in shots in the match.
Vermont moves to 3-3-1 overall and is 2-0-1 at Virtue Field this season. Marist falls to 2-5-0 on the year.
The Catamounts return to action on September 25 when they travel to Amherst, Massachusetts to face UMass. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. UVM returns home to host Bryant in a soccer doubleheader on Sunday (Sept. 27). The Vermont women's soccer team hosts Stony Brook at noon and will be followed by the men's game at 3 p.m.
