"Tonight was a good, complete performance, back to front. We got two great goals by both Jon and Bernard while getting a clean sheet. This league has been a challenge for us, but the guys came together and battled for 90 minutes. It was not beautiful at times, but at this of the year it's not about being esthetically pleasing, it's all about finding a way to be successful. The guys did that tonight," head coach
Jesse Cormier said about his team after the shutout. With the victory, Cormier earned his 110th career win at UVM and only needs five more wins to become the all-time wins leader.
The first half belonged to the Catamounts by landing every shot attempt on goal. In the third minute,
Brian Wright had an opportunity to get Vermont on the scoreboard with a one-one-one opportunity with Binghamton keeper Alejandro Cubillo (2 saves), but Wright directed a shot straight at Cubillo for the easy save.
Only four minutes later, Barödal recorded his second goal of the season to give Vermont an early 1-0 lead. After a UVM throw-in, Yeboah bounced a pass from his knee into the box to the freshman, where Barödal took a dribble past a Bearcat defender and roped a laser shot into the left side of the net.
The Bearcats tried to counter in the 16th minute with a shot from Nikko Psarras, but the sophomore's attempt sailed wide. Psarras tried again in the 28th minute but UVM goalie
Aron Runarsson (5 saves) came through with the stop.
Yeboah was close to padding the Catamounts' advantage late in the first half. The senior used his dribbling skills to burn through the Bearcats' defense, but his low shot attempt resulted in another save by Cubillo.
Vermont nearly added an insurance goal with 15 minutes left on the clock in the opening half. On a free kick, the Catamounts used two passes to set up a breakaway scoring chance, but the Bearcats deflected a pass to kill the attack.
Yeboah came through with a goal of his own in the 67th minute. The Catamounts were mounting a scoring threat as Barödal tapped a pass up to Yeboah, who blasted a shot from 20 yards out to double UVM's lead to 2-0.
