FINAL SCORE: No. 2 Boston College 3, Vermont 1
BURLINGTON, Vt. – Second-ranked Boston College scored a pair of power play goals and killed off all seven Vermont power plays during a 3-1 Hockey East victory on Friday night at Gutterson Fieldhouse.
 
The Catamounts fall to 6-10-3 in league play and 12-17-3 overall with three games left in the regular season. UVM retained seventh place in the league with a one-point lead on UNH and two-point edge over Merrimack. The Eagles improved to 22-4-5 (13-1-5 HEA) to remain unbeaten in 2016 and take over first place in the standings.
 
"We played extremely well against a very, very talented team," said head coach Kevin Sneddon. "They certainly give you all you can handle defensively, and 5-on-5 aside from their first goal we did a lot of good things to defend it. The only downside was our penalty killing. We let them outnumber us at the net and bang home two pretty easy goals."

Jonathan Turk began Senior Weekend with a bang, lighting the lamp 15 seconds into the contest to open the scoring. The senior skated into the Boston College slot and wristed a shot under the right armpit of Thatcher Demko (35 saves) as the puck trickled inside the left post. Anthony Petruzzelli and senior captain Yvan Pattyn collected the assists.
 
The Eagles answered at the 5:37 mark of the first when Austin Cangelosi followed a Miles Wood attempt from the right faceoff circle, finishing into an open net from the left doorstep to knot the score.
 
Just over a minute later, BC took its first lead with the first of its two power play goals. Zach Sanford pounced on a rebound at the right side of the crease and finished past the outstretched pad of Packy Munson (26 saves) for a 2-1 cushion.
 
Mario Puskarich was inches away from equalizing for the Catamounts later in the first, but rifled a shot off the glove side post from the right circle. Boston College carried a one-goal lead into the first intermission despite a 14-12 edge in shots for UVM.
 
The Eagles doubled their lead near the midway point of the contest as Sanford found Teddy Doherty at the back door with a cross-crease pass. Doherty finished before Munson could slide across his crease and BC led 3-1 at 9:56 with its second power play tally.
 
Demko denied Turk his second of the night with a left pad save on the senior's drive during a partial breakaway. Liam Coughlin then rung the outside of the left post from the slot after a drop pass from Kevin Irwin with three and a half minutes left in the period.
 
Boston College killed off two more Vermont man advantages in the third and held its two-goal cushion into the closing minutes. UVM called timeout with 3:09 remaining and pulled Munson for an extra skater, but the Eagles closed out the league win to remain unbeaten in 13 straight games.

The Catamounts held the Eagles to just two shots during the third period and notched 13 total shots during their seven power plays. Defenseman Mike Lee led the team with five shots on goal.

Prior to Saturday night's game, Vermont will honor the four members of its senior class: Yvan Pattyn, Alexx Privitera, Dan Senkbeil, and Jonathan Turk, along with senior student manager Ben Harvey. This year's senior class has skated in nearly 400 career games at UVM with over 110 points.
