BOSTON – Erin O'Neil made 25 saves for her second shutout of the season as Boston University defeated Vermont 3-0 Friday night at Walter Brown Arena in game one of the Hockey East quarterfinals.

In the second period Litchfield kept the Terriers off the scoreboard with 19 saves to bring her two period total to 31. Both teams failed to convert on their first power plays of the series in the middle frame.
The Terriers doubled their lead 3:19 into the third period. Savannah Newton received a feed from Dakota Woodworth and fired a low shot towards the Vermont net. Litchfield made the initial save but Sammy Davis put the rebound home from her knees for her 17
th goal of the season.
Boston University struck again 68 seconds later to stretch the lead to three. The Terriers scored on a near carbon copy of the second goal. This time Kayla Tutino buried the rebound after a point shot from Alexis Woloschuk for her ninth goal of the season. With the goal Tutino now has 16 points in the Hockey East tournament which is second all-time in league history.
With 6:57 left in the third period the Catamounts called their timeout and pulled Litchfield as they earned their second power play of the night. Vermont managed two shots with the six-on-four advantage but they couldn't solve O'Neil.
In the final three minutes Vermont again pulled Litchfield for an extra-skater.
Alyssa Gorecki rang a shot off the crossbar with 1:20 left in regulation but that was as close as the Catamounts would come.
"I'm very proud of the way we played tonight," said head coach
Jim Plumer. "It was a very focused effort and it was certainly an excellent hockey game for 60 minutes. I'm excited to come out with the same intensity tomorrow."
