POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Vanessa VanderZalm netted six goals and
Meredith Moore added five assists, but Marist out scored Vermont, 7-3, in the second half to pull out a 15-14 victory at Tenney Stadium on Sunday. The Catamounts fall to 1-2 on the year after their first road trip of the season, while Marist moves to 2-1.

Marjorie Dehm, to take a 6-4 lead with 18:56 left in the first half. Marist answered with three straight goals to take a 7-6 lead. The Catamounts responded with five goals from five different players to take an 11-8 lead at the end of the half.
After totaling 19 goals in the first 30 minutes, the second half netted just 10 goals between the two teams, but seven were in favor of the Red Foxes. Marist scored four of the first five goals of the stanza to tie the game up at 12-12 with 12:41 left in the game.
VanderZalm's fifth goal of the game, off an assist from
Alex Bernier, pushed Vermont back into the lead, 13-12. Marist answered with two straight goals to regain the lead, 14-13 with 9:40 left. VanderZalm converted a free position shot at the 7:48 mark to even the game once again at 14-14.
The teams traded possession for the next few minutes, but Marist gained possession and called a timeout wtih 3:44 left. Following the stoppage in play, Olivia Pitonzo's shot with 3:27 remaining was saved by
Catherine Green. However the Red Foxes retained possession and Kara McHugh's 14th goal of the season proved to be the game-winner with 37 seconds remaining.
McHugh and Allison Gionta led Marist with seven points each. McHugh netted a team-high six goals, while Gionta handed out five helpers. Abigail Wiczak, the program's all-time leader in wins, made 11 saves to earn her second victory of the season in the Marist net.
Maddy Kuras and Green, who made her collegiate debut, split time in the UVM net and combined for nine saves.
Vermont continues a five-game road swing next week as the Catamounts head to California for spring break. UVM will face USC on March 6, travel to UC Davis on March 8 and close out the trip at California on March 11.
